Founded in 2011 by the mother-daughter team Teta and Maya Gorgoni, Royal Jelly Harlem produces African-inspired home designs, such as this ankara wax print apron. The cotton fabric for this New York City-made apron is produced in West and South Africa through a traditional wax-print, or batik, method and represents African tribal patterns and motifs. The process involves melting wax and patterning it across a blank cloth. Then the cloth is soaked in dye, which is prevented from covering the entire cloth by the wax.
