Description

MoMA Exclusive: Budding bird watchers, origami fans and craft enthusiasts will enjoy creating their very own feathered friend from paper with these 3D DIY kits. Designed in Spain by Plego, a company known for the high quality of its bespoke paper figures featured in window and art displays, each kit features a different bird from their Birds of Catalonia collection. Once constructed, each bird is capable of standing on its own two feet (and tail)!

Begin with the cheerful European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) in order to gain confidence and learn folding techniques. The figure is brown and cream, except for its chest, which is the characteristic orangey red color after which it is named.

Move on to the Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), a small, compact bird in bright blue with a large head and a long black bill, set off by a pumpkin orange breast and red legs. He’s best positioned on the corner of a table so that his tail can hang down below it.

Finally, complete the most colorful bird in the collection, the Great Tit (Parus major), with its characteristic black tie on a yellow breast.

Each 3D DIY Birds of Catalonia kit contains colorful sheets of dyed-pulp art paper with 50% cotton content, which has excellent folding properties and is resistant to light. The sheets are pre-cut and marked in order to facilitate folding. Also included are an educational sheet profiling your chosen bird species and assembly instructions—all packaged in a durable, attractive folder. Standard white craft glue (not included) is required for assembly. Measures approximately 4.7h x 7.5w x 2.9"d. Age 12+.
