Description

Like a small, colorful sculpture for your kitchen, this Italian-made Ettore Sottsass Domestic Totem Grinder is suitable for coarse salt, peppercorns or spices, which are ground by the rotor in the base of the design. Designed in 1989 and 1994, these grinders (each sold separately) are emblematic of Sottsass’s work with the Memphis Design Group, of which he was a founding member. The Domestic Totem Grinder is made from eco-friendly FSC-certified wood and colored with water-based, solvent-free paints that are non-toxic and sustainable for the environment. Ettore Sottsass and the grinder’s manufacturer, Alessi, have work in MoMA’s collection.

Features of the Ettore Sottsass Domestic Totem Grinder:

  • Once you add something to the grinder—salt, pepper or a spice—the grinder should only be used for that seasoning, without switching.
  • Use a set of grinders (each sold separately) for your seasoning needs and to create an eclectic display on your table.
  • Made in Italy.
  • Produced using FSC-certified wood guaranteeing an eco-sustainable origin. The grains, knots and differences in the wood make each piece unique and distinct from the others.
  • Colored with water-based and solvent-free paints that are sustainable for the environment and non-toxic.
  • Wipe clean with damp cloth or sponge and dry immediately.
